We’re sending out some major kudos to fashion designer Steven Alan, whom you guys might remember was one of the judges at FSHNDL V last month.

Alan recently donated more than a thousand items to the Housing Works on W. 17th Street in New York, which will offer them at discount prices as part of a charity sample sale starting next Saturday, December 27.

MOMA ART JUMP PHOTOS ON FLICKR

We had a blast Monday night with Allison Reimus and all the MoMA jumpers! Major kudos all around, and merit badges to the many bystanders who came to see the exhibits but ended up leaping in front of them with us after catching the jumping bug.

A big thanks to Nicky Digital, Amanda Bruns and Bradly Brown for capturing the action. Amanda and Bradly’s photos are up now on the MoMA Monday Nights Flickr group — which anyone who has pictures from last night is more than welcome to contribute to –…

NICKY DIGITAL HELPS YOU STUFF STOCKINGS

LVHRD pal / award winning photographer / all-around cool dude Nicky Digital just posted his 2008 Hipster Holiday Guide, which is several distinct varieties of rad.

Fittingly, Nick does put the spotlight on a camera — a very awesome 4-lens 35MM cam from Lomographic — but also lists (SPOILERS) apparel that’s both fashionable and functional, a game that’ll tide over the recession-stricken unemployed, Ricky Powell prints, Evolution nicknacks and even a toiletries set for hipsters on the go.

But the most exciting — and excitable — gift of all is the very last…

NEW YORK EYE & EAR FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND

Your poor ears.

They’re icicles, aren’t they, New Yorkers? Hats and scarves and earmuffs or not, your ears can’t be coping with the sudden deep freeze very well. Temperatures are supposed to rise later in the week, but taking them out in warmer weather just doesn’t compensate for what they’re going through today.

Fortunately, there’s an aural extravaganza going on this weekend in Brooklyn that your ears (and eyes) are gonna love. More than 30 bands and 30 record labels converge on Brooklyn this Friday and Saturday for NY Eye &…

WHAT: ART JMP @ MoMA
WHEN: Tonight, December 8 @ 5:30 PM
WHERE: MoMA (11 W. 53rd Street, between 5th and 6th avenues)

Alright, tonight’s the night that we’re joining Allison Reimus of Jumping in Art Museums at MoMA to stage what we’re modestly hoping will be the biggest art jump EVER!

Of course, to do that we’re going to need your help. The whole “Ten lords a-leaping” jazz just won’t cut it. If you’re gonna be there, aim to arrive ahead of 6:30, when Allison will corral…

RECESSION GOT YOU FEELING SQUEEZED?

It’s time to squeeze back.

Over at Squeeze the Banker, you can order stress toys that will help you crush your financial woes. Each is a thinly veiled caricature of a different economic luminary — they don’t come out and say it but c’mon, there’s no way the bespectacled and balding “Banker Alan” is Paul Schaffer. Or Samuel L. Jackson.

Luckily, the site is explicit about why you should make with the gripping:
“Coping mechanism for the Board Meeting”
“You have/had a job in banking”
“Dollhouses have higher home values than…

LOUP SCARVES = STYLISH SHEEPS’ CLOTHING

My fifth year of French was almost ten years ago, and all I can remember is the word for winter: L’hiver. It sounds like “leave air,” as in, “I know it’s cold out, mama, but c’mon now! Don’t tie my scarf so tight! Leave air!”

And here’s another French- / scarf-related term that’s worth your while: Loup, which means both “wolf” and “NYC scarf co.” Run by Yulia Laricheva, Loup offers hand knit wool scarves and hats named after streets across the boroughs.

Yes, I know, that makes these wool…

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO JUMP IN ON?

And we do mean that literally.

Allison Reimus, pioneer of the Jumping in Art Museums movement, is going to be at the MoMA this Monday night (12/8) for, appropriately, MoMA Monday Nights. For those unfamiliar with art jumping, here’s the gist: you go to a museum. You see yourself some fine, modern art. You’re thrilled by said art. Ecstasy takes hold and, before you know it, you commence with the jumping. (This phenomenon, equal parts rad and awesome, is documented at length on Allison’s blog.)

The plan for the 8th is…

FSHNDL V: PHOTOS NOW UP!

Check out our flickr set of balloon pit portraits,

check out our photos from the event.

Also, point of contention, we all know that pixar has been ripping us off for years but until now we had no proof. This trailer, hastily created and released after FSHNDL V was announced but before the event itself, proves once and for all the presence of a mole. Your thoughts?

FORM A HABIT WITH OPIUM MAGAZINE

We just got our mitts on Opium7, the latest issue of the Opium Magazine. If the name’s not ringing a bell, think stories, think poems, think drama excerpts, cartoons and art. Basically, it’s what your high school’s art-literary mag aspired to be — what it would have in its locker, if only it had one.

What’ll strike you first (after the Chuck Close cover) is that each piece save the table of contents has an estimated reading time. Sure, it’s a normal convention of the series, but it’s still pretty novel.…
